The U.S. Will Send Humans To Mars By 2030, Obama Says

Early Tuesday morning, President Obama announced that the United States will work with commercial firms to send humans to Mars by 2030. According to NASA, the plan entails partnering with private companies to create deep space habitats capable of supporting human life, as well as building privately-owned low earth orbit space stations to help get us there. “We have set a clear goal vital to the next chapter of America’s story in space: sending humans to Mars by the 2030s and returning them safely to Earth, with the ultimate ambition to one day remain there for an extended time,” Obama wrote in an op-ed on CNN. “Getting to Mars will require continued cooperation between government and private innovators, and we’re already well on our way. Within the next two years, private companies will for the first time send astronauts to the International Space Station.”

Smoking Permanently “Scars” DNA, New Research Finds

If you think that time can undo — or at least soften — the consequences of smoking, think again: New research says some of the damage wrought by cigarettes may be permanent.
In a study recently published in Circulation: Cardiovascular Genetics, Harvard University researchers assessed the genetic impacts of smoking and found that while much of the damage fades if a person quits for five years, some of smoking’s scars on DNA can last a lifetime, no matter what.

Why isn’t Belgium’s King Leopold II as reviled as Hitler or Stalin?

Leopold II’s rule over the Congo was a horror story with a body count on par with Hitler’s, so why haven’t more people heard of him?

Belgium is not the first European country we think of when we hear the words “blood-soaked tyranny.” Historically, the little country has always been more famous for beer than epic crimes against humanity.

But there was a time, at the peak of European imperialism in Africa, when Belgium’s King Leopold IIran a personal empire so vast and cruel, it rivaled – and even exceeded – the crimes of even the worst 20th century dictators.

Bill Gates quotes that are inspiring and funny.

1. Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can't lose
2. Humanity's greatest advances are not in its discoveries, but in how those discoveries are applied to reduce inequity.
3. One of the wonderful things about the information highway is that virtual equity is far easier to achieve than real-world equity...We are all created equal in the virtual world and we can use this equality to help address some of the sociological problems that society has yet to solve in the physical world.
4. If I were a guy who just wanted to win, I would have already moved on to another arena. If I'd had some set idea of a finish line, don't you think I would have crossed it years ago?

Your Hands and feet evolved directly from fish fins, New Study reveals.

Just like any layperson with a working set of eyes, scientists long believed that our hands and fingers (not to mention the hands and feet of all land-dwelling creatures in our planet’s history) did not directly evolve from the thin, bony rays found in fish fins. That belief helped support the overarching theory that the hands and feet that allowed the very first creatures to rise out of the water and onto land hundreds of millions years ago composed a wholly new evolutionary leap with no direct predecessor.

New research conducted at the University of Chicago and published in Nature, however, recasts this crucial moment in the history of life on planet Earth.

THE DREAM

Do you get upset when people refer to Africa like it is one small country or village? Well I do sometimes but I cannot blame people for their ignorance. When I think Africa, I think of the 54 independent countries which comprise vast vegetation, beautiful people and great culture. Very often, Africans themselves tend to succumb to the ridiculous stereotypes created by the world. I personally fail to realize how grand Africa is sometimes. In other words, the problems of Africa as well as their solutions, start with you and me.
First, dating back to the days of slavery, the “superiors” came in, stole our people, our land and made us feel like we were less than what we are. Years and years have passed and it is so sad to see

Great Nation

If you are Nigerian, you should be thankful and proud. Did you know that Nigeria has one of the best music industries in Africa and the world at large? Did you know that Nigerian students break records in different parts of the world, even at top universities every year? Did you also know that Nigeria is one of the richest countries in Africa? Well, I know what you are the thinking, “upon all the wealth we still dey suffer”. Trust me I feel your pain too but whining and complaining will not solve anything. Growing up I listened to my elder ones sit down and discuss the problems with our leaders and how corrupt the Nigerian political system is but no one ever took it upon themselves to speak up or fight for a better Nigeria.

Photo Of The Phone Invented by a Pupil In Namibia which doesn’t Use Airtime

A Grade 12 learner in Namibia’s Ohagwena Region has invented a sim-less mobile phone that allows users to make free calls and watch one TV channel.

Simon Petrus, a pupil at Abraham Iyambo Senior Secondary School, created the phone using spares from a phone and television set.

Complete with a light bulb, fan and charger socket, the handset functions off power supplied through a radiator and is able to make calls to anywhere through the use of radio frequencies.

Intriguing!!! Scientists use solar-powered machine to turn urine Into Beer

In this remarkable achievement, scientists from the University of Ghent, Belgium have invented a machine that turns urine to beer.

Mankind has been turning beer into urine for centuries. Leave it to science to find a way to reverse that process.

Scientists at Belgium’s University of Ghent say they’ve created a machine that turns urine into potable water, and fertilizer, using solar energy. The scientists have since crafted small batches of Belgian ale from the recycled water.

“We call it from sewer to brewer,” Sebastiaan Derese, one of the researchers from the University of Ghent, told Reuters. “We’re able to recover fertiliser and drinking water from urine using just a simple process and solar energy.”

The milk from insects is 4 times better than a cow's

A group of scientists from India, Japan, Canada, the U.S. and France recently discovered that a particular species of cockroach – the Pacific beetle cockroach feed their bugs a formula that is rich is in protein, fat and sugar, according to a CNN report.“It is what one would need: protein, essential amino acids, lipids and sugars,” said Leonard Chavas, one of the scientists behind the research.“The protein crystals are milk for the cockroach infant. It is important for its growth and development,” said Chavas. He explained the crystals have a whopping three times the energy of an equivalent mass of buffalo milk. The Pacific Beetle Cockroach is the only known viviparous cockroach. Meaning of this?
